1-on-1 Adult Education
ADULT LITERACY & EDUCATION CENTER
(ALEC)
The Adult Literacy Education Center of Fayetteville Urban Ministry Inc. established in 1976, is a non-profit tutoring program accredited by ProLiteracy designed to address the needs of adults who are interested in empowering themselves in the areas of reading, writing, math, general academics (GED), English as a Second Language, Career Readiness, Financial Literacy and Computer Literacy.

Literacy is fundamental for creating better health care access, lowering crime rates, and ensuring safer family security. Our goal is to close the gaps due to increased demands for higher education.

ALEC empowers students through individual learning plans increasing hopes for living wages changing individual economic futures removing the hindrance poverty has on North Carolina economic development. We strive to advocate for policies and legislations that address systemic barriers to success, such as lack of opportunities to further your education. We celebrate and promote achievements and contributions of individuals from diverse backgrounds that take part in our ALEC department. At FUM, we believe in being the voice that provides resources and opportunities to those who have been met with discrimination and other systemic obstacles.
If you’re seeking philanthropic fulfillment or one-on-one tutoring contact us to see how to get involved as a tutor, intern, volunteer or student.
