Johnny Wilson - Executive Director
Johnny Wilson’s career with Fayetteville Urban Ministry (FUM) began in early 1999 when he came to the Find-A-Friend (FAF) program as a mentor and volunteer. Later that year he was hired as a part-time program assistant of FAF and shortly thereafter became the full time afterschool coordinator. By 2003, Johnny, became the overall program director. FAF saw dramatic growth under Wilson’s direction from serving 60 youth a year to currently serving more than 200 annually. His role continued to expand as he accepted an associate ex. director at FUM in 2009.
The Board of Directors unanimously approved the search committee’s recommendation for Johnny Wilson becoming the executive director for Fayetteville Urban Ministry starting January 1, 2012. I am honored and incredibly fortunate to get the opportunity to continue the tradition of Fayetteville Urban Ministry and all that it does for the Fayetteville community. From day one when I came to Fayetteville Urban Ministry Ive loved the purity of our mission and equally important all the staff and employees that truly care to make a difference. It deeply humbles me that our Fayetteville Urban Ministry board and my mentor Rusty Long (former ex. Director), find me fitting to lead the organization as I intend on giving all that I have in my abilities.
Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a minor is sociology from Methodist University. He currently serves on the university’s Athletic Booster Club and is also the immediate past president and a current board member of the NC Juvenile Services Association. He also serves as a Fayetteville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador.
