| Nehemiah Project, named after the Old Testament
prophet who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, provides home repairs
for moderate to low-income homeowners. Priority is given to projects
that remedy or prevent substandard conditions, and to improve accessibility
for the disabled. Repairs are performed by qualified contractors,
staff and volunteers. Last year, Nehemiah staff, contractors and their
faithful volunteers performed home repairs worth $120,547.00. Nehemiah’s
primary source of funding is the City
of Fayetteville Community Development Office with HUD grants and
the United Way of Cumberland County.
Homeowners must be able to provide proof of ownership and proof
of income to qualify for this program.
Keep your eyes open when you’re on the road and you’re
likely to spot our Nehemiah Team riding around town in their blue
Urban Ministry pick-up truck. Many special members of the Fayetteville
community have warmer and safer homes and we in turn are touched
by their lives, their stories and their hearts.
Each year the Nehemiah Project participates with Operation
Inasmuch, a lay-led ecumenical volunteer day. Nehemiah staff
identifies a low-income neighborhood and coordinates volunteer teams
from local churches who perform repairs. Other volunteer days include
Law Day and the United Way Day of caring. |
