| We teach basic reading, math, & writing skills
to adults who read on a zero-to-sixth grade level. Instruction is
provided by trained volunteer tutors who primarily use the Laubach
phonics-based materials.
Students and tutors work 1:1 to help learners reach their individual
goals. We’ve seen victims of strokes learn to read again,
mothers who have raised their children and put them through college
without being able to read themselves have finally found the gift
of reading. Students reach their goals and some even become tutors!
The literacy center is
a wonderful place, containing a library, computer lab, learning
room for students and tutors, and a coffee pot is always on to welcome
you for a visit.
“Learnin’ to read opened doors
to a new life…I learned to read my mail. Learnin’ to
read, gave me confidence in life.”
- Charlie, student, age 56
